Renewable Energy Confederation of Nepal (RECON) has been putting efforts on renewable energy technologies to be accessible, available and affordable to all realizing that RETs have connections with agriculture, forestry, clean cooking, decarbonised transportation, impact on health, socio-economy and so on. To this connection, RECON had organized interactions, discussion and workshop programmes in the past with relevant government agencies, bank and financial institutions, development partners, donors, experts, professionals and entrepreneurs.
The Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN) is a multilateral public private partnership initiated by the Climate Technology Initiative and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It identifies and nurtures promising, innovative clean and renewable energy projects by bridging the gap between investors, clean energy entrepreneurs and project developers.
The primary obstacle to the large-scale deployment of low carbon, climate resilient technologies in developing countries and emerging economies is the access to finance. PFAN mobilizes private sector's expertise in financing climate-friendly projects and technologies to screen business plans and select projects that are economically viable, as well as environmentally and socially beneficial. For the selected entrepreneurs and businesses, PFAN provides guidance in areas such as economic feasibility, project structure, investment and financing, preparation of the business plan, and introductions to investors.
Since 2016, PFAN is hosted and managed by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP).
PFAN, thus, offers free coaching and investor matchmaking to promising climate and clean energy businesses in low-and middle-income countries. PFAN manages an extensive pipeline of investment-ready projects.
PFAN is active in Nepal with the purpose and mandate. Working together with Renewable Energy Confederation of Nepal (RECON) the both entities jointly organized the second webinar on Financing Climate and Clean Energy Projects on October 02, 2020. The objective of the webinar was to highlight opportunities for project developers in high-quality climate resilient and clean energy projects in Nepal.
A number of promoters and investors of climate and clean energy and energy efficiency projects and enterprises participated in the webinar.
Mr. David Yeo, Regional Transaction Manager of PFAN, Mr. Nagaraja Rao, Investment Analyst and Facilitator at the Regional Office, Mr. Sujan Kumar Paudel, PFAN Country Coordinator - Nepal, Mr. Gyanendra Lal Pradhan, Chief of Energy Development Council, Confederation of Nepalese Industry (CNI) and Senior RE Expert Mr. Vishwa Bhushan Amatya highlighted on the relevant subjects to the participants to know about PFAN aims, activities, achievements and benefits to be taken from PFAN scopes for Nepalese RE entrepreneurs.
The online event was moderated by Gender and RE Expert Dr. Indira Shakya.
Chairperson of RECON Mr. Guna Raj Dhakal spoke on the occasion saying that PFAN coordination for financing to renewable energy technologies to the entrepreneurs will be meaningful as the entrepreneurs are not accessing to suitable investing institutions of the country or from abroad. RECON will coordinate with PFAN and the finance seeking entrepreneurs as RECON has been a Network Partner of PFAN to coordinate and create environment.
